Peter ElfesPeter Elfes has been a professional photographer for 35 years and he has found his artworks in Australia and overseas including the National Gallery of Australia, The Power House Museum the Museum of Contemporary Art and New South Wales Parliament.
Peter Was born in Sydney and grew up in the inner city of Darlinghurst. Peter's Father was a photojournalist who migrated from Greece in the 1950's and inspired Peter to become a photographer. When Peter was younger he was taught how to take photos from a young age and as he got older he started to work in his father's studio for a few years until he began work at Freeman Studio in Sydney in 1981. Peter became manager but left for New York in 1991 to further his knowledge of the art of photography, but headed back to sydney in 1992 and began working as a freelance photographer and was the official photographer for the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Association for 10 years. Peter has a passion for environmental and social social documentary photojournalism. He has recently travelled to remote areas in australia and the South Pacific and has returned with many photos and essays. Peter has won awards and has continued to travel to write more essays and taking more photographs. "To me my photography is an art in observation i see the abstract forms of nature like nature's poetry and the more time i spend in nature the more i understand her poetry"
